So who do you think is made to do the dishes in this scenario? Recently, polygamy has come out of the shadows and into the forefront of people’s minds. But the question is, “Is the topic or even embrace of the idea now such a taboo?” More and more families are found to have at least experimented with the idea of having more than one “wife”.

Polygamy has been known to be practiced all over the world since the beginning of time, however it managed to scurry its way on to America in the late 1700’s to the early 1800’s. Mainly the polygamist lifestyle has been held by Mormons/Latter Day Saints. The practice started when Mosiah Hancock “sealed” himself to several different women in the state of Utah. At the time of these marriages polygamy was considered to be “celestial”, or ‘heavenly’.

So why is Polygamy so frowned upon if people so far back as the 1800’s were doing it? Polygamy in a more modern time is viewed slightly differently than it was back then. Multiple wife families are found now in more than just the Mormon religion, and are not known for living on a “compound” and following ‘His Holiness The Wise Prophet’ who seriously needs to shave. No these families seem to be more functional than ever-living right next to ever monogamous person.

Through a series of interviews it was said that polygamy is not frowned upon simply because of the man wanting to marry more than one female, but frowned upon because of the effect it would take on any children raised in such an environment as that. Worry has spread amongst others about whether allowing children to be raised in this environment is going to cause harm to the child s psyche or not. I guess there is cause for panic since back in the olden days one of the reasons for polygamy was to give away ones child to another leader of a Mormon area as a sort of alliance. We don’t need that now a days. There are laws set in place that considers that human trafficking. Just saying.

The biggest problem with modern-day polygamy is that people don’t look on it in a religious way. People who are monogamous look upon polygamy as if it is just a really great excuse for the man to cheat and not feel bad. There is much speculation over if a polygamous lifestyle would actually solve the cheating spouse problem. If a man is allowed to have more than one wife at a time then that means that not only does he get multiple women to help financially support one another but he can never say he will get bored with his sex life.

However a man must keep in mind that he is only metaphorically married to one women. Officially the United States only allows you to marry one person. I know they must totally be squares. Anyway men, keep in mind that if you piss off the original wife too much you could get very much sewed for alimony or you and your other “wives” could quickly lose their house and vehicle should the divorce go extremely sour. The only way around that tad bit of trouble is if you should have her sign a prenuptial agreement prior to the marriage.

One question burning in everyone’s brain is, How are all these females okay with sharing their men with another female. It is scientifically proven that while men are more worried about reproducing, that women are very dominant and protective over their men. I think the praying mantis had the right idea!

If anyone has an opinion on Polygamy leave a comment! Who knows what we will see!

Unjustified? I think so!!!!

When you walk down the street, or drive down the road, how often do you see a homeless person? How often do you stop to help out these homeless people? Now be honest people. We all know that liars are easier spotted than an albino in Africa.

Being homeless has become an epidemic. With the economy not on the rise nor fall anymore, but merely maintaining its status as being royally screwed, we seem to find ourselves with the problem of thousands to millions of families and just people being our of work and a home. So is it the fault of Americas sketchy government, or is the blame to be placed solely on that of the American? Such questions…

I have found that although there are many slackers in this wonderful country that would prefer to take advantage of the pitying population, that most homeless people do not choose that lifestyle and many actually attempt to change it. There are many programs available to traveling people, or people who don’t have a permanent address such as Red Cross, The Mission, and Low Income of Fixed housing. Now in the grand scheme of things this looks like a beautiful picture. However when inside this grueling world of fear, dread, and anxiety, one learns that it’s not always as easy as it appears to get off the streets.

Services such as Red Cross and Low Income/Fixed Housing, are thrown into homeless people’s faces everyday, but in all reality it’s just not that easy. There are many unseen problems with shelters. For example, availability.  Many shelters have problems holding people, and not just because of the number of beds provided. To be eligible to stay in a shelter not only do you must have some form of identification, but you also have to meet certain criteria. How long you have been homeless, goals you have in life, sexual orientation, and whether you are male or female are all taken into account before you are allowed access to a shelter.  I know that to some people, maybe even most this might make a lot of sense. Sorry, but I’m not most people.

What are you to do if you have nothing. Say for example you went through a fire leaving you with no way of proving who you are. Everything was destroyed. If you had to stay at a shelter because of this problem, how would you prove that you were in fact who you said you were? Also if you did have the means to get and identification card of some kind how are you going to pay for it? If you have the money to pay for it then why don’t you have the money to pay for food?

Your sexual orientation is also a very big deal apparently. If you are a lesbian you can’t be roomed with other females because it might make the other females uncomfortable. Now I don’t wanna make waves…oh to hell with hit! Let the waves role in! Seriously? Do you really think that anyone is going to give a damn if you are a lesbian? No. They don’t care because, even if for only one night, they have a bed to sleep in, a shower to use, and a roof over their head. However the shelters don’t see it this way. And since most shelters do not mix sexes due to safety concerns, that means that all of the homosexuals and transgender people are put nicely out on their buts with an apology and a packet of saltines.

Also, how many people you have with you. If a couple comes in that is married they must bring evidence of said marriage, and they must have at least one child or they will not be allowed to room together. A lot of married couples find this separation difficult. Shelters are scary places and no one wants to be stuck in one alone. So be sure to have a child going into a shelter and make a xerox copy of your marriage license to carry on you at all times folks or you are gonna be in for a long night!

Now not only do we have numerous problems with shelters, but we seem to also have cause for concern when it comes to Low/Fixed Income Housing. Now I do believe that government assistance is an amazing thing for the people who need it. With that being said, it has been shown that in Government Housing, more people who live there have not attempted to get jobs and spend most of their time attempting to live a life style that I promise can not be claimed on taxes.

Feeling the need to prove my point I did a little “Personal” research. I myself applied to Government Housing and stated that I was pregnant. I did have a job but one that did not pay minimum wage, and underwent a criminal background check. Two weeks after applying, I placed a call to these establishments and asked about everything. My criminal background check low and behold came back clean as a whistle and my references were impeccable. Are you having trouble finding a problem? I sure am! I was informed that there where no apartments available and that I would be placed at the top of the list. Okay, now that doesn’t sound so bad.

As the weeks passed and I waited, oh so patiently, I observed the tenants that lived in these areas. More than half of them were seen outside their apartments using/selling illegal substances, and drinking. Now this wouldn’t bother me if I had an apartment there because…well I would have my apartment there. But while waiting and watching I found myself growing very angry. Why was it that these people, the druggies and prior convicts, that had no job were able to get an apartment? I didn’t do drugs and I had no record. I even had a job. But even to this day I am still found on the waiting list.

Now if someone who has a job, no drug use, and no criminal background can’t get an apartment, then who can? How do we know that these homeless people aren’t exactly the same and just in a really bad boat? How scared would you be to walk into a shelter alone? Would sleeping on the streets bother you? Do you care about being mugged? Do you know if you’re gonna eat tomorrow?

Teen Pregnancy has sky rocketed in the past five years, more than any other time in history. It is found that approximately one million girls become pregnant in the united states every year, and one-third of these pregnancies are terminated. Call me crazy but I do believe that this is beyond ridiculous. You have a billion questions to ask yourself while reading about a topic like this.

First, ask yourself  “Why are these girls getting pregnant?” It’s well known that ninety percent of teenagers are taught about abstinence and how to avoid an unplanned pregnancy. Health centers all around the country have been known to hand out condoms for free along with pamphlets of information on what could happen  not only pregnancy wise but were STD’s are concerned. Birth control can now be prescribed to your teenagers without parents having to have any knowledge of it, and sexual education courses are provided in our high schools.  So, with all of these pieces of information out there, why do our children still make the choice to have unprotected sex?

I have personally come to find through a line of questioning that most teens believe it or not really are having sex, and the reason behind it is that they honestly are under the impression that everyone is doing it because…well everyone is. Most teens, when asked why they were having promiscuous or unprotected sex had a staggering answer. The answer was that they didn’t care.

Our world has gotten to the point were teenagers as young as thirteen are having sex on a regular basis with anywhere between one and five different partners by the time that they are twenty.

Another question that comes to mind when thinking about teen sex and unplanned pregnancy is, where did they learn this behavior. Obviously, parents are not allowing their children to have sex on their from lawns so were do kids pick it up. Most people want to blame the media or society, and others believe that it is solely the families responsiblity to teach these children to know better.

Through a poll taken in 2010, teens stated that their family did have “The Talk” at some point in life and that it had no influence on their decision to have sex. At one point in history you could say that this was astonishing; that these teens would bring shame and dishonor not only to themselves but to their families, however now in the mainstream world, it is almost a right of passage to have a child, not only out-of-wedlock but before it is even legal to be wed.

Through research I have found that three out of five schools do provide daycare and other resources for teen parents. Also one in five schools provide transportation for these infants to and from the daycare center. Now, is it society, or the school system, or families that is causing this tragic thing to happen?

There is such speculation that the media may be on the “cheerful” side of this topic. In the past couple years we have come to see more television shows and movies exploiting young couples getting pregnant and having babies. For example MTV’s new hit series “Teen Mom”, “Sixteen and Pregnant”, and ABC Familys “Secret Life Of The American Teenager”,  are showing and maybe even supporting teen pregnancy. In these shows teenagers are filmed throughout their pregnancy and after they give birth to show what a “real” teen mom goes through.

Because such shows like this exist it gives teenagers false hope that if they get pregnant maybe they could be on TV or maybe they can make it through since those select few moms did. However accurate these series may be on the pain and struggles it is to have a child, you must ask yourself if it is showing all the hardships of being a parent. Are these shows showing all of the trials that these teen moms are going through, or are they making being a parent look glamorous or luxurious?

When asked teens stated that it would be “Cool” to be a mom and that they truly did believe they had what it took to be a parent. When asked what they thought being a parent meant only one in seven teens mentioned the financial toll it would take on them and the educational struggle it would put into place. One in seven is a staggering amount. Teens mostly admitted that they thought it would make them more popular in school since there would be so much attention on them, while others stated they thought it would make their relationship with their sexual partners stronger. A common misconception in teens is that they do believe that if they get pregnant that whomever they are sexually active with will stick around “forever”. It is statistically proven that only one in six couples will stay together after having a baby and that one in fifteen couples will get married, however causing a higher divorce rate.

One third of teens decide that having a baby at all would be to much of a struggle so Abortion becomes a very popular option. But is it to popular? It seems that many teens are now looking at abortion as a form or birth control. They believe that even if they do have unprotected sex and they get pregnant that abortion will bail them out. What most teens don’t know is that abortion can be costly. Most abortions, depending on the stage of pregnancy, can run anywhere from three to five hundred dollars. Also, abortion can take a severe toll on anyones body, especially a teenagers. Because teens are not fully developed yet, abortions can cause infertility, menstrual irregularities, and severe trauma to the girls cervix and uterus. These risks are elevated even higher if done more than once. Not only will this take a toll on your pocket and you body physically, but it takes a toll emotionally. It is found that most teens that go through a procedure like this have to seek grief counseling afterwards for feelings of guilt and remorse, and they tend to have more trouble in relationships and education.

Teen pregnancy is preventable. But the real problem here is, Do these teens want or feel the need to prevent it? Do they care? No one may ever know.

So….

Have you talked to your teen lately?
